In 2005 I attended my first orchid show and quickly became obsessed with these amazing plants. I enjoy figuring out how to grow them into beautiful displays and sharing my ideas with others. The orchid family is composed of thousands of species and hybrids. They are divided into two orchid types: the terrestrial and epiphytic orchids. The terrestrial orchids are ground based while the epiphytes also called aerial orchids grow on trees, poles and rocks.
Repotting is an unavoidable requirement to ensure your orchids perpetual health and growth. The perfect time to repot an orchid is in the early springtime just after it has commenced new growth activity, but prior to the arrival of new roots. Never repot an orchid plant when it is blooming or has generated a spike.
